The festival took place on Wednesday 7th July 2010. The New Year 7’s come to our school for introduction day. The aim of the festival was to organise an excellent introduction day for the New Year 7’s, and also to organise a festival because it was a part of our unit which we had to complete. The CMD students organised a festival for them with different types of stalls for example workshop like photo booth, balloons, creating canvas bags and junk band. My self and Henna made posters and banners for our stall using Publishers and Photo shop. We done a balloon stall for the year 6 students and asked the year 6's to draw something linked with sustainability and saving our planet on a piece of paper, also we had pumped up helium balloons which on the year 6’s were able to draw something on and also they were allowed to take the balloons home, the year 6 students were very good at listening to the instructions and following them also lots of student had produced some very good drawings, I was confident to speak in front of the year 6 students because they were a lot younger then us.
Other then that I have been taking pictures of everything which was happening on the festival, also other photographers took picture of my self while I was busy helping the year 6’s for evidence. The fashion show which was organised by a couple of CMD course students. They created dresses from scratch, wore them and walked a catwalk. I had token plenty of pictures of the fashion show which I and other CMD students could use for evidence. The skills that I used for the balloons stall were the following, using helium pumpers, blowing balloons and helping the year 6’s with drawing pictures and getting their balloons ready. My workshop might have given the year 6 students more confidence in them self’s because they were able to show their drawing skills in front of other students of their age and also year 10 students because we were leading them. The environmental issues and sustainability were explored through our session because we had asked the year 6 students to draw the earth and also write sentence about the sustainability this made them think about the environment and also that we all should look after it for the next generation.
The festival was a success because everything went as planned, the year 6 students got to do all the workshops and they also had a fantastic show which included a drum performance by Hassan, a dance performance by year 9 students and a fashion show which was performed by year 10 students. The weakness of the festival might have been a few for example, I had two roles to complete at the festival which included running the balloons stall and taking photographs of the festival, this got my self and Henna a bit confused. The workshop was very helpful because I had a lot more knowledge after using the computer for different types of research which I used the Internet for, and also by using different software’s like publisher and Photo shop. Everything which was planned on the schedule was completed except from the poster part, my self and Henna did not get to make the official poster which was going to get hanged around the school, miss managed to make one which me and Henna did put around the school, other then that I did make some posters, banners and a website based on our stall theme.
The year 6 students found the festival very enjoyable as they had learnt and experienced what to do to save our planet. At the end of the day most year 6 students gave some positive comments about the balloon stall. The parents of the year 6 students also looked happy by seeing their children learning new skills and enjoying themselves as they are go start secondary school. The teachers which helped us organise the festival and other teachers of the school were also happy to see their students helping younger students then them self’s.
